What is an MRE

MRE is Military language for Meal Ready to Eat

Outside of a military setting, they are often called “Ready to Eat  Meals” or “Wet Meals” 

At ADVENTURE NUTRITION we probably have more  MRE recipes available and in stock than anywhere else in the UK.

The MRE is a meal that has been precooked and it can be eaten cold if needed,

HOW TO REHEAT YOUR MRE: Place in a pan of boiling water for 6 to 8 minutes, then eat from the pouch Another very popular options is to use an FRH ( Flameless Ration Heater ) Just add water ( or an activation sachet ) to the FRH, no gas, electric or flames required, wait for 8 to 10 minutes and eat from the pouch ( Take care as steam from heating the food is Hot, and food in the pouch will be Hot when you open the pouch. )

Prepared and packed in a special Retort pouch, and when stored in the correct conditions, they have a long Best Before Date.

The water is already in the Meal, so MREs usually weigh more than Freeze Dried Meals. Most MREs in the UK weigh 300g, Deserts are commonly 200g. Plain Rice to add to the main meal on its own will normally be 160g, but Dessert Rice will be 140g In  Emergencies, MREs can be eaten cold if necessary, as the meal is already cooked. 

All Day Breakfast, Meatballs & Pasta, Chocolate Pudding, and tasty long life Chocolate Cakes along with many other MRE meals and extra’s are a long way from the  tin of Bully Beef, Oxo cube, and dry biscuits   used in the First world war 

In the United States, an MRE is sometimes used to describe a 24-hour Ration pack.
